Most romantic restaurants in London: because "there is no love sincerer than the love of food"

February 14, 2018

The title of this post pays homage to George Bernard Shaw (feel free to click on his name, I also had no either who he was until I started looking up cool titles for the post - anyway I digress) - he is absolutely spot on when he says there is no sincerer love than the love of food. Given that February is the month of Eros love, we are dedicating this blog post to the most romantic, most luxurious (valentine) and Snapchat-worthy date-night restaurants in London.

Sketch Gallery

9 Conduit St, Mayfair, http://sketch.london/menus.php

Based on aesthetics alone, I am going to start with Sketch. I mean, what screams romance and love than pink and gold decor? It is hip, romantic and fun. The menu is a mixture of sorts - think creative, modern, French cuisine. While the food is not out of this world, the ambiance more than makes up for the little that is lacking with the food.

Hutong

33, The Shard, 31 St Thomas St, London https://www.the-shard.com/restaurants/hutong/

Hutong is a glamorous, classy Sichuan / Northern Chinese restaurant with a gorgeous view of the city - it is on the 33rd floor of the Shard. Pssst, if you want to boost your libido, the fiery red lantern (soft-shell crabs with a serious garnishing of fried chilies) is a must. The intimate table setting and lighting makes this THE ideal glitzy date night.

Galvin at Windows

22 Park Ln, Mayfair, http://www.galvinatwindows.com/

Boasting 360° views of London, Galvin is a Michelin-starred restaurant in Hilton, Park Lane, serving contemporary haute-French cuisine. This restaurant is excellent for a weekday early evening date or if you are going for that understated glam/contemporary old-money (yes, I know this is an oxymoron if ever there was one) type vibe!

Park Chinois

17 Berkeley St, Mayfair https://parkchinois.com/

This is probably the most opulent and decadent restaurant on the list. Picture a modern-day Bugsy Malone speakeasy with Chinese fine dining. It is definitely one for special occasions, but probably not ideal if you want intimacy.

Spring

Somerset House, London  http://springrestaurant.co.uk/

Spring is as spring does. Relying on seasonal ingredients, this beautiful, fresh restaurant in Somerset House, with an European menu, it is perfect for a romantic afternoon date. Think post-museum or afternoon stroll by the river. Your date will think you are the epitome of sophistication dahling!

Clos Maggiore

33 King Street, Covent Garden, www.closmaggiore.com

What can I say? Just look at the picture! Clos Maggiore has won awards for being the ultimate romantic restaurant. It is a French/European fine dining restaurant with an extensive wine cellar. Warning, if you are just dating, this restaurant might set your date's heart racing (in a good or bad way) thinking you are about to propose -  which might be slightly awkward if you are not intending to! However, it is really only worthy of its title if you are lucky (or dogmatic) enough to get a table in the conservatory.

Bob Bob Ricard

Upper James St, Soho, https://www.bobbobricard.com/

Think dinner on the Orient Express - the layout and decor is very reminiscent of  luxury passenger trains of yesteryears. Bob Bob Ricard serves up a classic European (English and Russian) cuisine and it is definitely not form over substance. And did we mention that you can press for more champagne? - sold!

Yauatcha Soho

15-17 Broadwick Street, Soho, London http://www.yauatcha.com/soho/

Disclaimer: Yauatcha is hands down my favourite restaurant (I saved the best for last!). It is a Michelin-starred Chinese restaurant known for its excellent dim sum and it really is excellent value for money; the restaurant has a cool, sexy and trendy vibe, the food is always a hit, and the pièce de résistance, is the desserts that not only look, but taste utterly divine. For a romantic date, the basement is a must, as the ground floor is more suited to afternoon tea and lunch dates.
